The Becontree Heath leisure centre, a games time training venue for the Water Polo during the 2012 London Olympics, boasts a 25-metre pool with movable floor and separate 13-metre mother and baby pool, gym, workout studios, multi-purpose halls, indoor soft play area and onsite café.
The centre is equipped with a Delmatic system which provides networked control of lighting within key areas of the building, utilising the open technology of Lon for high-speed, energy-efficient control of lighting.
The system optimises energy efficiency through multi-sensor daylight linked dimming, presence/absence detection or microwave detection throughout the leisure centre controlled via the head end pc in the centre manager’s office or at the touch screen interface at reception. Scene-setting within the multi-function spaces such as the studio, gym and pool enable different lighting levels to be selected according to the use of the space.
The system is configured to maximise energy efficiency by relating lighting to occupation and reducing lighting levels taking into account the contribution of daylight. The system includes future-proofing, and is designed for long and reliable operation to provide sustainability and re-use in the medium and long term, while the software virtual wiring enhances the value through the ability to reconfigure the system to meet alternative future requirements. The system also provides full testing and monitoring of emergency luminaires across the site.
