A Delmatic system controls lighting across all stations on the Dubai Metro network as well as controlling lighting within the Al Rashidya, Al Gusais and Jebel Ali depots and command centres. The depots have a total built-up area of 109,000 sq.m and provide maintenance, train washing and cleaning workshops, and a Rail Operation Control Center to ensure the safety of doors, brakes and motors: the largest depot has a capacity to accommodate 44 trains. The Delmatic system provides energy-efficient, addressable control of lighting throughout the depots together with remote management and monitoring. Lighting is configured into a variety of modes which are activated automatically at scheduled times or via a solar controller. Secure local override control is available to the depot controller from a custom console which displays the active scene, allows changeover from automatic to manual override settings, and indicates the health of the communications network. The Dubai Metro is the world’s first district-cooled mass transit system and an innovative distribution network provides centralised cooling via pre-insulated buried steel piping to all Dubai Metro stations. Not only has district cooling reduced the electromechanical areas inside the stations, but it also reduces the total power use by between 30% to 50%.
