Milton Gate London, UK

Milton Gate is a landmark building designed by iconic architect Sir Denys Lasdun in 1990 and comprising 20,000 sq.m of office space over seven floors.

The building was completely refurbished in 2005 and the original Delmatic lighting control system installed in the 1990s was replaced with the latest Delmatic open protocol Lon lighting management system.

In 2008 the offices were let to let to UK law firm Addleshaw Goddard and a comprehensive fit out was carried out.  The project was recently awarded Workplace Lighting installation of the year at the Lighting Design Awards 2010.

Addleshaw Goddard’s design brief was to create a contemporary, high quality space that complemented the company’s status while delivering a comfortable and vibrant working environment for staff. The lighting, designed by Chapman Bathurst Specialist Lighting, and the lighting controls have played a key role in achieving this objective.

Addleshaw Goddard wanted to move from a former cellular office arrangement to an open plan environment, which presented the challenge of how to provide the same flexibility of local lighting control that they had previously enjoyed. This was overcome with the use of Delmatic's open protocol LON control system which provides total flexibility of control for zoning and partitioning and achieves energy efficiency through presence-related switching and daylight-linked dimming.

As part of the fit-out works the base-build Delmatic lighting control modules, installed in 2005, were upgraded to DSI dimming.  The project benefitted from Delmatic’s modular hardware approach, which enabled dimming to be added to the original modules simply by inserting a dimming capsule.  Within meeting rooms Delmatic scene set modules and custom scene set panels were supplied which incorporated the lighting scene buttons, air conditioning controls and sensors. AV interfaces within meeting and presentation rooms integrate the audio visual functions with the lighting management system. 

The complete system is monitored through graphical head-end software which provides real-time status and active system management, calendar time scheduling, programmable load shedding scenarios, integration with the fire alarm system and emergency light testing.
