Delmatic are supplying the lighting management system for “The Shard” at London Bridge. Part of the £2 billion London Bridge Quarter development, The Shard has been designed by Italian architect Renzo Piano and at 310m high, the 93,000sqm, 83 storey building will be the tallest structure in the UK and Europe.
 
The building comprises 600,000sq.ft. of office space on the lower floors, with mid-level restaurants on levels 31-33: a five star luxury hotel occupying 18 floors is also planned towards the top along with private apartments and a public viewing gallery that will offer panoramic views across the City.
 
The Delmatic system provides fully addressable management and monitoring of lighting throughout the shell and core areas and the ability to extend and create integrated control within tenant areas. The system comprises plug-in switching and dimming modules within lobbies, and Dali Buswire and Broadcast modules for staircases and washrooms. In addition, the system provides comprehensive emergency light testing and monitoring throughout the building.  
 
New legislation requires developers to automate the testing of the entire emergency lighting system within a building – not just within areas controlled via a lighting management system – and the Delmatic lighting management system provides automated testing of the entire emergency lighting network in accordance with BS EN 50172. The system combines a variety of emergency test and monitoring devices to suit the light source and installation approach: Dali EmPro devices, Delmatic battery monitoring and photocell monitoring devices are integrated into the site wide system and transmit performance information across the network to the head-end PC for the generation of pass/fail reports.
